Octanol, ook bekend als n-octanol, is een organische verbinding die kleurloos en transparant olieachtig vloeibaar is met een sterke vettige en citrusgeur. Het is onmengbaar met water, maar mengbaar met ethanol. Octanol wordt voornamelijk gebruikt voor de bereiding van dioctylftalaat, dioctyl tereftalaat, octyl acrylaat, dioctyl azelaat, dioctyl sebacaat en andere producten; plasticizers, antivriesmiddelen, smeermiddelen, extractmiddelen, dispergeermiddelen, stabilisatoren, geuren en andere producten worden gebruikt in geraffineerde olie, kunststoffen, coatings, bedrukking en verven, voedselverwerking, cosmetica en andere gebieden.
